The second-screen application for the use-case of the Spanish broadcaster RTVE is ready for the validation in field trials in line with the overall project schedule. It provides an image gallery complementing a selection of images shown on live TV. In addition, the application allows the users to upload images from their device including the geo-information of the images to provide location information in the gallery.

It follows the responsive design paradigm and is designed for smartphones, tablets, and desktops. Since the application is using current web technologies, it can be run on any device and operating system.

After launching the application, a scrollable list of images with a brief description and location information is shown. The end-user can select a specific gallery e.g. one gallery for each day of the week. Within the gallery, images can be selected by clicking or selection criteria and shown in a larger version. Also, the application includes the option to create polls for selecting the best image of, for example, the week.

The selection of the content to be displayed or the polls to be offered is done in the social media engine. The connection between the applications and the social media engine is provided by the online distribution engine that acts as a message broker and provides the backend functionality for the second-screen application.

During this validation phase the application will be refined and in particular the end-users’ feedback will be taken into account during the fine-tuning of application for a later realease.
